Job Description

Job Purpose:

Mid-level wireless field position, performing wireless site surveys and implementations. Engineer will provide implementation/troubleshooting/support for wireless networks, while documenting existing and new networks.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Perform wireless network implementations
  • Install wireless access points
  • Install network backbone, including wireless controller
  • Perform post-installation AirMagnet survey
  • Perform wireless site surveys using AirMagnet software
  • Perform passive survey of existing networks
  • Perform passive survey using test equipment to determine suitable coverage
  • Document all surveys and implementations
  • May include network diagrams, port mapping, photographs, etc.
  • Troubleshoot network/controller/access point issues
  • Basic troubleshooting when needed
  • May work with a remote NOC as needed
  • Time and Expense Reporting
  • Note time entries in online PSA software
  • Collect and upload copies of receipts in online PSA software
  • Record time and expenses in a timely manner


  • 3+ years' routing/switching experience
  • CCNA certification required
  • 3+ years' wireless experience with 802.11 a/b/g/n networks (including conducting passive & active site surveys, installations, configurations and troubleshooting)
  • Cisco experience required
  • Ruckus/Aruba/HP experience a plus
  • AirMagnet experience required
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Must have customer facing experience
  • Must be willing to travel on a weekly basis as necessary to meet the needs of the business and customer requirements
  • Regular, national travel experience a plus
  • Willingness to learn and take on new responsibilities
  • Willingness to train and earn new certifications

Working conditions:

  • 100% travel position, national scope
  • Complex high-density buildings, arenas, large public venues
  • Occasional outdoor work
  • Hospitality, office, warehouse environments with focus on limited guest interruption
  • Physical requirements

  • Must be able to safely lift more than 50 pounds
  • Must be able to safely climb ladders and operate high lifts as necessary
  • Must be able to work safely in dirty/dusty environments
  • Must be able to safely work in small spaces as necessary
  • Tools required

  • Tools you are responsible for providing:
  • Cell phone with unlimited nationwide calling and data- Bluetooth headset recommended
  • Power screwdriver or small drill with Philips and flathead bits
  • Non-power 1x Philips and 1x flathead screwdriver
  • Torx screwdriver (T6 & T10, or bits for power driver/drill)
  • Cutting snips/scissors
  • Cisco console/rollover cable
  • Whiteboard and dry erase marker (8x10)
  • Needle nose pliers
  • 8MP (or better) digital camera
  • Tools that will be provided to you:

  • Von issued laptop or tablet

  • USB Scanner
  • AirMagnet license and Proxim Adapter Card
