Mission and Responsibilities Position can be located in either Houston, TX or Boulder, CO! Within the Global Blade Design Team, you would be based in Houston or Boulder and will play a key role in the dynamic loads modeling and analysis utility-scale wind turbines with a special focus on blade design and performance. You will be responsible for developing, analyzing, and validating multi-body dynamic models of utility-scale wind turbines and their respective subsystems. Scripting and automation of common loads analyses and tasks will be paramount to the speed, accuracy, and consistency of integrating your contributions with the rest of the team. In addition, you will develop strong collaboration within the Global Blade Design Team and its relevant engineering disciplines as well as providing support to other internal stakeholders such as production and sales business units. Specific responsibilities include: * Multibody dynamic loads analysis of wind turbine systems as part of the global blades engineering team (aerodynamics, loads, structures, controls, and acoustics) * Performing large parametric studies of wind turbine systems for both new and existing products as well as new and innovative design concepts * Development of new engineering tools/codes/scripts to improve the speed, accuracy, and consistency of common design and analysis tasks * Planning and performing loads validation studies to continually improve the accuracy between computational models and field performance measurements * Effective communication and collaboration with aero, structural, controls, and acoustic engineers in a global team Qualifications required * MS or PhD in engineering (Aerospace, Mechanical, Civil, etc.) * Over 3 (3+) years of professional experience in wind or closely related industry * Superior knowledge and experience of loads, aerodynamics, composite structures, aeroelasticity, controls, acoustics and supporting tools * Excellent knowledge of fatigue and extreme loads, modal analysis of complex systems & structures * Wind turbine computational modeling experience with industry tools such as FAST, BLADED, HAWC, FLEX, ADAMS, SAMCEF, etc. * Experience with wind turbine inflow, power, loads, and acoustic measurements and validation * Experience working closely with other engineering disciplines such as aerodynamics, loads, controls, structures, and aeroelasticity * Programming experience in MATLAB, FORTRAN, C/C++, Python, or similar * Must be highly motivated, have excellent written and verbal communication skills, and be a strong team-player The successful candidate will meet or exceed most, if not all, of these qualifications.
