I have a direct hire opening for a Welding Engineer that I thought may interest you. My clients designs and manufactures construction industry equipment and machinery. My client is located in Racine, Wisconsin and the organization has a global profile with several international locations. This is a permanent position with an above average benefits package. We are looking for a degreed engineer with a BS in Welding Engineering. Please review the job description below and let me know if you would be interested. Job Title: Welding Engineer Department: Quality Assurance Reports to: Quality Assurance Manager FLSA Status: Exempt Job Grade: TBD Position Summary: Develop and issue welding standards and procedures for welding related topics at (PMA). Analyze welding related quality problems and field failures - especially regarding safety-relevant structural parts. Create the necessary report, and documentation for providing management with information on structural and weld related issues, and providing technical information for developing Welding Procedure Specifications / Procedure Qualification Records, and welding procedures. This position works closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Purchasing, and Quality to help prevent and resolve product issues. This position is the primary contact between PMA and the Engineering Group, and Quality Management regarding issues related to welding and weld quality. Essential Functions: Works with PMA technical groups at other PMA locations to develop effective welding processes that are used internally within PMA and by key suppliers. Provides technical support for resolving supplier and customer structural issues. Assists in the development and execution of the PMA boom inspection training and welding certification programs. n Visits dealers and customers to gather information that can be used to identify the root cause for product failure issues and applies that knowledge to problem resolution. n Acts as a technical resource to PMA's Customer Support Group to assist with welding related machine refits, product updates, and product improvements. n Keeps well informed on new welding related developments that may be of interest to Engineering, Customer Support, Manufacturing, and dealers / customers. n Provides Field Service and Technical Support representatives with technical information on weld related product issues that are under investigation. n Ensures that the work area is orderly, clean and safe on a daily basis. n Performs additional duties as assigned or directed. Qualifications: To perform this job, an individual must be able to perform each function satisfactorily. Education/Certification/training: Individuals that have an International Welding Engineer credential are preferred. Individuals with a Bachelor of Science in Welding Engineering and/or Welding Engineering Technology will be considered. Individuals with other welding related credentials may be considered, but they are not well suited candidates for this position. Professional knowledge and expertise required: Must have a minimum of three years experience as a welding engineer in a manufacturing environment. Shows evidence of strong problem solving skills which are adaptable to a manufacturing environment. Is able to work effectively as a team member as well as individually. Possesses the skill and ability to perform the welding process employed by PMA and to help instruct PMA welders to improve PMA weld quality. Individuals with experience and training in the codes, standards, and practices described by; ASME Section IX, EN ISO 14731, and AWS D1.1 are preferred.. Technical Communication: Ability to read and interpret documents such as engineering drawings, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Able to write understandable and meaningful routine reports and correspondence. Is able to effectively present information and respond to requests from co-workers, managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Math Ability: Ability to work with mathematical concepts typically associated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Design, Welding Engineering, Welding Technology, or Materials Joining Technology. Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Computer Skills: Database: Ability to enter data into an existing database and create reports and output information from queries of the database. Knowledge of SAP and CAD is a plus. Word Processing & Spread Sheets: Proficient in using MS Office products. E-mail: Uses the basics, "to, from, subject, body", selects recipients from an address book and sends with or without file attachments. Able to create personal distribution lists from contact list. Uses calendar to schedule meetings and reminders, uses "tasks and notes" to set up "to do" lists and reminders. Internet: Knows how to pull up a search engine and look up information. Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to: moving mechanical tools, fumes or airborne particles and hot conditions, high precarious places, toxic or caustic chemicals, outdoor weather conditions, and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the office environment is moderate, and when in the production area it is loud. Safety glasses/goggles must be worn at all times while in designated areas of the shop and yard. Physical Demands. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, bend, and use hands to finger, handle or touch; and is regularly required to sit, talk or hear. Must be able to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds. Vision requirements for this job are normal vision and include close, peripheral, and the ability to focus. Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no direct reports. Additional Requirements: Technical resource for welding and structural topics for all PMA factories. Expect to travel to each PMA factory several times each year. Specific safety training is required for new and current employees.
