Who You Are.

As our Technical Publications Engineer, you will manage the technical publications function, from knowledge capture to dissemination of technical information via documents or electronic media, across the product lifecycle from pre-sales support to service and troubleshooting to end of life.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Define and technical publications management system, key processes and indicators and resource the team with world class technical writers.

Build a knowledge capture system that mines the information held by product development engineering, sustaining engineering and field technical personnel and vaults it in a repository that assures high integrity.

Design and implement the processes needed to extract information from the repository and segment it to meet the needs of various users for pre-sales, installation, operation, service and technical troubleshooting.

Modulate the content to meet differing levels of technical depth from higher level sales support to detail level troubleshooting information.

Work with Information Technology to develop and implement knowledge dissemination tools from conventional documents to smartphone/tablet applications ensuring these tools enable suggested edits, improvements and corrections and feedback on content effectiveness.

Work with Technical Services and Sustaining engineering to find opportunities to improve system operation, serviceability or troubleshooting adding new knowledge to the repository.

Ensure all documentation deliverables as defined by the new product stage gate process are delivered on time.

Manage the technical documentation backlog ensuring projects are prioritized and delivered predictably per commitments.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Strong oral and written communication skills.

Solid track record in a technical publications role producing copy for internal and customer use

A process approach to managing work prioritization, estimation of effort and predictable execution

Innovation and creativity applied to achieve dynamic and agile content creation and maintenance

High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others.

Comprehensive knowledge of state of the art authoring, archiving and compiling tools for content publication

Education and/or Training:

College degree in Industrial, Mechanical, Electrical or Manufacturing Systems Engineering

5 Years' experience in a technical writing/publications role

Expert level knowledge of major authoring tool suites and information management systems
