Demand for Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) remains high and its growth prospects are strong for the mass transit industry. This World leader in Innovative ITS needs a Systems Engineer in the West coast (preferably in SOCAL since most of our clients are there).
We need you to provide technical product support for existing customers and project management of system installation for new and upgrading customers. You will provide on-site and remote system training to customer staff from a user and technical support perspective.
Working with Sales, we need you to provide a technical specification and implementation plan with costing and resource requirements clearly articulated for any proposed system enhancement for existing customers. You will act as the first point of contact for all customer support requirements.
For approved sales enhancement projects, from the technical specification, the System Engineer will develop a comprehensive project plan and assume full responsibility for implementation and delivery (as per Project Management responsibilities above).
Develop and maintain strong working relationships with customers, colleagues, industry opinion leaders, industry consultants and suppliers.
You will expand the high level project plan identifying all project deliverables and all resource requirements to develop a detailed project plan. You will then identify and allocate resources (internal and external) to ensure timely delivery of all project milestones.
Manage and monitor the project ensuring potential and actual issues are identified and remedial actions are taken as required.
You will ensure management and the customer are kept informed of progress and in particular ensuring that any deviations in cost or time are fully communicated to relevant parties.
To be effective you will need a full understanding of intelligent transport system needs and objectives, ensuring quality customer interactions and have an in depth understanding of the full company solution from both a hardware and software perspective.
Provide training and support for customer staff both from a user perspective and technical perspective
Escalation of technical issues identified during installation or maintenance that cannot be resolved with available resources and taking ownership of the issue for the particular customer involved
Able to work remotely and as an individual contributor
Oversees all transitions into customer deployment
Travel is predominantly within the West Coast, about 30%. Occasional foreign travel to corporate HQ.
Current passport is required.
What we need from you:
To be successful in this role you will have a proven track record in project management with complex and high value solutions
Experience in systems engineering involving hardware, software, data and communications technologies
Radio frequency wireless communication systems experience/knowledge is highly preferred.
BSEE or equivalent.
Experience working with public entities such as transit authorities, cities, transit systems or related markets.
The successful candidate must have a practical approach to work and be comfortable "rolling up their sleeves" and getting into the technical detail if necessary.
Some database experience preferred
The essential skill will be an ability to communicate and co-ordinate between multiple parties in an international environment; influencing outcomes to ensure on-time delivery of a quality solution.
Ability and experience with effectively manage customer relationships
Excellent communication skills, both written and oral

Must currently reside within the US.
