SR. Reliability/Maintenance Engineer - Mechanical

Job Description:


The Sr. Reliability Engineer emphasizes dependability in the life-cycle management of Chemical plant mechanical equipment, products and/or systems establishing guidelines with the Maintenance Manager. The Sr. Reliability Engineer will apply engineering knowledge and specialist techniques to prevent or to reduce the likelihood or frequency of failures and identify and correct the causes of failures that occur, despite the efforts to prevent them. This position will also determine ways of coping with failures that do occur, if their causes have not been corrected.

To effectively accomplish the assignments, the Sr. Reliability Engineer must have a thorough understanding of Chemical Manufacturing processes and process equipment, site utility systems, technology, as well as a high degree of personal organization / project management and leadership skills. The Sr. Reliability Engineer must drive continuous improvement in process equipment reliability, performance, and safety. As part of their planning and project responsibility, the Sr. Reliability Engineer will interact and work closely with environmental and safety engineering

Key Areas of Responsibility

* Support site safety programs and participate in departmental safety and training meetings.

* Provide leadership and training for operators and mechanics to ensuring best industry practices are in place to optimize equipment/plant on stream performance.

* Partner with Maintenance Manager to develop Plant wide Reliability Plan

* Improve Component Reliability and establish quality and reliability requirements

* Develop and systematic approach to problem solving using 6 sigma/lean tools.

* Lead initiatives aimed at continuous improvement regarding plant reliability issues.

* Develop and use KPIs to track and communicate plant performance.

* Use pareto data to drive improvements based on highest financial opportunity.

* Metrics include plant uptime, equipment mean time between failure, maintenance work order productivity, etc.

* Review major project designs to ensure facilities incorporate best practice

* Assist in the use of SAP and Excel to maintain up to date and accurate data and KPI reports.

* CMMS (SAP) maintenance- build equipment profiles, parts lists, task lists, historical data, time estimates, root cause analysis and other system improvements.

* Focus on costs of failure caused by system downtime, cost of spares, repair equipment, personnel, and cost of warranty claims. Lead problem solving exercises using established methods such as FMEA, Why Tree, Fish bone, or other accepted techniques.

* Define/Implement PM and PdM programs for new and existing equipment.

* Apply methods for estimating the likely reliability of new designs, and for analyzing reliability data.

Experience and Education

A minimum of Bachelor's degree or technical degree with full time work in a chemical Industry and/or manufacturing environment is required. Mechanical Engineering preferred.

Supervisory experience is a plus. Minimum of 5 years of Chemical, Power, or Pharmaceutical plant process and equipment knowledge and experience or five years of mechanical maintenance experience.

Required Skills or Abilities:


* Functional system failure analysis and derived requirements specification

* Inherent (system) Design Reliability Analysis and derived requirements specification

* Demonstrated troubleshooting and repair capabilities of chemical process systems

* Experience with Vibration Analysis, Thermal Imaging, Ultrasonic Testing and Oil Analysis.

* Determine cost-effectiveness of plant equipment and/or systems.

* Use of 6 sigma/lean tools for problem solving. Black Belt Certification desired.

* Comprehensive experience in SAP

* Familiarity with world class manufacturing techniques (ISO, Lean and Six Sigma)

* Knowledge of Rotating Equipment (pumps/compressors)

Additional Preferred Abilities

* Failure / reliability testing (and derived requirements)

* Establish Predictive and Preventive maintenance (e.g. reliability-centered maintenance)

* Experience with Vibration Analysis, Thermal Imaging, Ultrasonic Testing and Oil Analysis.

* Develop future department schedule based on availability of parts, equipment, resources.

* Spare parts stocking (availability control)

* Technical documentation, caution and warning analysis
