Position Overview

The Sales Engineer (SE) will be based in Westborough, MA and responsible for supporting NEC Energy Solutions Distributed Energy Storage Systems provided through Direct and Indirect Sales Channels. In this highly visible role you will be responsible for deal flow by securing the ?technical close? in complex solutions. The SE is responsible for supporting all phases of NEC Energy Solutions sales process, including but not limited to: opportunity qualification and development, business case analysis, pre-sales technical support, , Requests For Proposal (RFP) analysis and responses, proposal development and support, and acting as technical liaison between the outside sales teams (including channel partners) and internal engineering and operations organizations.

Primary responsibilities

+ Support Direct and Indirect sales teams in defining opportunity fit & potential, as well as on proposals and solutions to customers.

+ Provide technical and application analysis for emerging ?behind-the-meter? and other distributed energy storage applications and business cases. Provide pre-sales technical support to channel partners on NEC Energy Solutions distributed energy storage platforms and emerging distributed energy applications.

+ Proactively scope the technical solutions required to address customer requirements, assess customers? met and unmet needs, and recommend solutions that optimize value for both the customer and NEC Energy Solutions systems.

+ In coordination with the client?s and or Channel Partners technical representatives and responsible agencies, secure the technical information required to ensure not only the ?technical close?, but also future solution deliverability, e.g. interconnection requirements.

+ Supporting Direct and Indirect sales by translating customer?s RFP to a technical requirements document.

+ Write a technical proposal in response to the RFP, and/or support partners? proposal development.

+ Support all sales efforts in tendering and bidding process, supporting the customer through successful handoff to the proper implementation team.

+ Responsible for providing Technical Application Engineering and direction to the NECES or Channel Sales team to support the development of market and Customer opportunities from demand creation to opportunity development, proposal development, Customer negotiations and order closure.

+ Build technical relationships with key Channel Partners within assigned geographies.

+ Focus on enablement & relationships for limited # of Channel Partners.

+ Management and creation of technical enablement plan for Channel Partners, including development and delivering of product and application technical training.

+ Owns, monitors, reports on, and drives technical enablement activities for assigned partner

Specific Skills/Abilities

The candidate will be expected to actively participate in day to day sales and marketing activities. As the technical liaison between the sales team and NECES?s Applications Engineering, the candidate must bridge the gap between a successful commercial solution and a successful technical solution through diagnosis and resolution of technical issues. In order to thrive in this role, the candidate will bring a working knowledge of the electric power industry from both a products perspective and a customer requirements perspective.


+ 8-12 years? experience as a Sales, Marketing, or Applications Engineer, power systems engineering or similar.

+ Bachelor?s degree (Masters preferred) in Engineering, or related field.

+ Experience writing and supporting complex utility scale or commercial/industrial construction or power systems project proposals (for example: substation design and construction, power plant design and construction, commercial/industrial energy systems design, etc.)

+ Superior written and verbal communication skills.

+ Provide on the job training for Channel Partner SE's by allowing Channel Partner SE's to shadow presentations and configurations.

+ Ability to clearly communicate & train others on complex technical issues.

+ Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize time with minimal supervision.

+ Technical background, with experience in the electric power industry.

+ Experience in any facet of electric power project development, including permitting, providing subcontracted services or equipment, engineering, or construction.

+ Experience in commercial or industrial power systems or distributed energy systems, including commercial solar PV deployments, microgrids, or backup power systems.

+ Experience in utility capital planning and regulatory approval processes for regulated T&D projects.

+ Familiarity with power systems engineering software including PSLF, PSSe, CAPE, Powerworld, or similar programs is a plus.

+ Proficient with Microsoft Office products

This position requires travel to customer and non-customer sites throughout the region (>30%).

This position is located in Westborough, MA. Some relocation assitance is available with in the US.
