The Reliability Engineer is a member of the Regional Operations Team and is responsible for developing and implementing programs in the areas of system electrical capabilities, service layout and reliability.
These programs are to achieve corporate objectives in assigned areas and meet system standards and goals. Key Accountabilities & Duties: Broad Scope Provide necessary skills for the effective performance of the activities of the assigned position within policies and procedures. Seeks out and makes recommendations for changes needed to improve the operations of the Regional Operations Team as it relates to the position of Reliability Engineer. Coordinate and cooperate with other personnel in performing assigned responsibilities. Observes all Safety Rules and Regulations adopted by the Cooperative. Observes work rules adopted by the Cooperative. Assist the Region Line Manager in planning and implementation of departmental objectives. Specific Focus Reviews and conducts research on equipment and materials, the system design and changing system requirements, taking into consideration reliability, cost and best correct engineering practices.
This research to include the following studies: Regional input to Four Year Construction Work Plan Sectionalizing Studies Capacitor (Voltage and VAR) Studies Line Loss Analysis Studies Maintain up?to?date knowledge of RUS engineering related bulletins and regulations, Cooperative policies and Service Rules and Regulations. Assist in designing distribution facilities that affect the performance of the electric system. Provides guidance to Staking Technicians on methods of supply to Developments and Complex Loads to factor cost, reliability, operations and safety. Analyzes reliability of electrical system and recommends remedial action as required for such problems as frequent outage or blinks, low voltage, etc. Maintain up?to?date specifications of electric materials and equipment required for the reliable operation of the electric system. Reviews and recommends new items to Engineering Department. Responsible for meeting customer and member needs related to power quality such as stray voltage, large motor starting, harmonic distortion and flicker/blinks. Responsible for coordinating special needs of large or complex customers including system design, metering, power quality and reliability. Knowledgeable of Distribution Automation Systems of the Cooperative. Knowledgeable of the Interconnect policies of the Cooperative, including the standards and policies related to the interconnection of Distribution Generation Sources, Net Metering and the impact of DER on the system. Participates in ON-CALL practices as requested. Works collaboratively with System Engineers to adopt Company-wide standards, gain experience in particular areas and share best practices. Maintain knowledge of the operation of the Dispatch Center and provide dispatch with regional interface when needed including use of the Mobile Workforce System and the Outage Management System. Available after hours and during emergency situations.
In the absence of the Region Line Manager, acts in that capacity to supervise employees and manage customer expectations. Attends conferences and schools as requested by the Region Line Manager.
Maintains technical expertise in tools, equipment and work method relevant to regional distribution operations.

Must possess a strong ability to communicate in both verbal and written form.
EIT or FE certification is desirable. WORKING CONDITIONS - Normal working conditions and hours of 7:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.
Some irregular working hours may be required.
Must be available for work during adverse weather conditions. WORK REQUIREMENTS -Must have a valid North Carolina driver's license with a good driving record.
All employees assigned to regional positions must make their domicile within 20 miles of assigned office location.
