Business Need / Purpose of Role:

Disassembles, inspects, assembles, reworks, troubleshoots and tests rotating equipment to

exacting tolerances. Enter inspection data into computer programs.

Objectives & Measurement - Key Responsibilities:

Including, but not limited to:

* Disassembles and inspects rotating equipment to determine repair requirements.

Includes both Weir brands as well as competitor's brands. This includes designs such as:

Multi-stage split case pumps, Vertical turbine pumps, Vertical inline pumps, Overhung pumps, etc.

* Completes inspection reports determining scrap, refurbishment or replacement of components.

* Using various pneumatic tools, hand tools, acetylene torch, drill press and surface grinder

required to disassemble and assemble rotating equipment.

* Troubleshoots and reworks components to ensure proper functioning of rotating equipment.

* Travels to the field to complete final assembly and troubleshooting of rotating equipment.

* Has a working knowledge of materials and material substitutions.

* Tests and dynamically balances rotating elements to W4/N.

* Reads complex engineering blueprints, drawings and diagrams.

* Ensures that machinery and test equipment is functioning properly.

* Performs routine maintenance on machinery and test equipment.

* Performs housekeeping tasks as required.

* Meets quality and specification standards. Tolerances are generally with +/- .001.

* Ability to validate equipment meets the specifications for required service.

* Uses various precision measurement devises.

* Calculates various mathematical formulas to determine part dimensions and tolerances.

* Follows safety and environmental rules, company policies and procedures in carrying out duties.

* Serves as an expert level resource for less experienced mechanics. Trains other mechanics as needed.

* Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

* Ability to drive fork lifts and operate overhead cranes in a safe manner.

* Ability to operate steam cleaning equipment.

* Ability to enter data into computer programs.

* As a member of a service center, does what is necessary to meet customer requirements of delivery, quality and service levels. Works overtime to meet customer needs.

* Acts appropriately in front of customers to represent the company in a positive manner.

Job Knowledge / Education and Qualifications:


High school diploma or general education degree (GED) with a minimum of six (6) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.


Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.


Fork lift operator certified. Ability to use acetylene torch. Ability to use various testing and measurement equipment and balancing machines. Understanding of engineering drawings. Ability to use various power and hand tools. Ability to adapt procedures and techniques to meet customer requirements. Understanding of mechanical, hydraulic, and fluid dynamics principles.


Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.


The incumbent should have knowledge of the following software:

Database software; Internet software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software. Ability to add inspection data into computer programs.
