Job Description

We are seeking a Sr. Project Engineer - Global Sourcing to join our team!

Summary
This is your opportunity to bring your qualifications in mechanical engineering to a role where you'll expand your experience in project management, customer service, engineering, and much more. As our Project Engineer you'll analyze customer requirements, manage existing customers and develop new customers, work with our sourcing team in China to locate appropriate suppliers, and oversee quality and successful delivery of products
Requirement

  • Multiple years experience in a Mechanical Engineer role in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience in global sourcing environment
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical processes such as CNC machining, stamping, forging, casting, welding and metal fabrication
  • The ability to read and understand mechanical drawings, blueprints, specs, geometric dimensions and tolerance, with enough understanding of how things work to be a project manager for this type of project
  • Polished and professional verbal communication skills to deal with engineers and buyers
  • Strong English skills to be absolutely clear about requirements
  • Good problem solving skills
  • The ability to lift up to 40 pounds, as needed
  • Self-motivation and the ability to work independently, but a desire to be part of a team and to call on others for help when needed
  • Bilingual in English and Chinese (Mandarin)

Preferred but not required:

  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering would be a plus

Travel requirements:

  • Travel will be less than 10%, and overnight travel is not common
  • Dependable transportation

Responsibility
Reporting to the VP of Engineering. Your goal will be to manage, cultivate and respond to requests from our existing customers in a number of ways, including:

  • Request for a quote -- you'll receive all quote requests and look at them in detail, make sure we understand the requirements, and flesh out any additional details we need in order to quote it.
  • You'll work with the engineering team (including the VP here and our team overseas) to put together pricing and a proposal, essentially acting as a project manager for that process -- you'll be the one who receives the quote and coordinates the resources to put proposal together.
  • Issues with existing products -- you'll receive any change requests, and deal with quality issues. You'll be the point person for the customer, and you'll have the authority to pull in internal resources as needed to resolve the issue.
  • Managing new projects -- if a customer comes to you with a new blueprint, you'll be the one who determines whether we can manufacture it or not. It will take some back-and-forth to help the customer develop the idea through samples, and this will be an ongoing process until we can figure a way to meet our mutual requirements.
