Job Description

Purpose: Why does this role exist* Who are the key customers* What are the key deliverables, actions, products and/or services*
Provide leadership, process/technical support and problem solving through planning and conducting trials directed toward productivity improvement, product development, quality improvement and cost reduction.

Key Accountabilities: List the required key outcomes or \\"whats\\" and the key actions \\"hows\\" taken for each \\"what\\".

*

Improve and optimize production area processes by evaluating changes to operations. Aid operating personnel to better understand their processes and any quality problems encountered. Focus is on higher productivity, efficiencies and de-bottlenecking
*

Complete cost optimization projects to provide significant saving through product substitution, reduced variability, improved quality and high operating efficiency
*

Assist production areas as needed
*

Assist with operator and maintenance personnel skill development
*

Make periodic inspections checking visual and physical characteristics of paper being produced and mechanical operation of equipment; confer with process control, product development, and other production personnel in regard to equipment failures and problems; follow-up on complaints and quality concerns
*

Write technical reports that clearly document trials, process improvement results and capture cause and effect relationships
*

Lead or assist in Process Variation Reduction

*

Assist in the investigation, recommendation, and implementation of new equipment or process changes and/or modifications which will simplify operations, improve productivity or quality, improve safety, and reduce costs
*

Work with the mill maintenance and corporate engineering groups on equipment modifications or selection of new equipment. Participate in design, installation, and training and start-up activities as required
*

Assist in ensuring the safety and health of all personnel in area of responsibility as related to work activities
*

Maintain harmonious relations with team members by assisting in the administration of contract provisions and company policies to avoid breach of contract, ensuring conformance to work rules and regulations, and administering disciplinary measures when necessary
*

Substitute for area managers/coordinators during short-term absences as required
*

Keep abreast of new products and equipment through review of literature and communication with vendors and manufacturer representatives
* Lead and assist formal Continuous Improvement process efforts in the Production Area

Knowledge and Experience: Describe the knowledge, skills, demonstrated behaviors and experience required for entry into this position:

*

Bachelor's degree in pulp and paper science, chemical engineering, chemistry, or a related technical area
*

Minimum of two years experience and results which demonstrates process improvement and analytical problem solving abilities
*

Examples of demonstrated leadership required
*

Any equivalent combination of education, training, experience

*

Must have the ability to design and evaluate equipment and processes in terms of chemistry, control strategies, mechanical integrity, energy transfer, thermodynamics, mass transfer, and
fluid dynamics

*

Proficient in the use of mill information systems including PTS, InfoStore Client, QCS, SPCS, Aspen Process Explorer, Access, mill intranet, and others
* Possess ambulatory capabilities to move freely about the mill, ascend and descend ladders and stairways, and tolerate temperature extremes
