Job Description

Position Description Fit to Nominal Engineer

  • Measure, review, and sign-off parts and data for Trim Coordination Builds (TCB).
  • Audit prototype and production build vehicles leading to Ok-to-Buy for Fit and Finish.
  • Track and manage closure of Fit and Finish Issues.
  • Provide updates for Fit and Finish Meets Design Intent/Meets Customer Expectations items closed loop lessons learned.
  • Review part data and assist in resolving system Issues.
  • Report metrics for Fit to Nominal.
  • Lead reviews with engineers / suppliers for OK to Grain approvals -- Drive closure to the issues.
  • Launch Team Member - "Live" at Nominal Engineering Buck (NEB)/Vehicle Builds (VP through OKTB)
  • Lead Management / TCB reviews at build site: a. Key Fit to Nominal metrics b. Key OK to Grain metrics c. Key open AIMS
  • Schedule fit to nominal meetings with ALL exterior/sheet metal suppliers and engineers and work with them to tune parts until Fit to Nominal requirements are met.

Skills Required:

  • Understand gaging and data collection techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret part dimensional data to determine if the part meets dimensional requirements and if not, what dimensional modifications are required to the part to for the part to work in the system.
  • Strong demonstrated ability to use both part dimensional data and system/vehicle dimensional data to correctly root cause complex system-level issues.
  • Ability to work with Sheet Metal Body Construction Team to deliver dimensionally accurate BIW.
  • Ability to work with suppliers to deliver dimensionally accurate Exterior parts.

Skills Preferred:

  • Demonstrated strong leadership and teamwork abilities to work with all stakeholders to resolve and implement resolution of issues in a timely manner and deliver a vehicle that meets fit and finish requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to represent the Exterior Systems Team in director-level management reviews and on-site at build locations.

Experience Required:

  • 4-6 years Design and Release experience preferably in Exterior Systems and sheet metal.
  • Experience delivering injection molded parts that meet dimensional and appearance fit and finish and functional requirements.

Experience Preferred:

  • 2-3 years of experience launching vehicles and delivering fit and finish.

Education Required:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering
