Product Engineer Career Transitions is recruiting Product Engineers with design and project management experience for a client in Dayton, Tennessee. In this role you will be responsible for leading the design and development for products and accessories that include furnaces and heaters. You will create, or direct the creation, of products with CAD Designers, CAD models, layouts, assemblies, drawings, and be responsible for maintaining engineering documentation. You will lead and contribute to cross-functional teams and manage projects to meet customer and/or business needs. You will provide mechanical leadership to ensure integration of form, function and manufacturability; support the qualification testing and transition to production; and mentor peers and team members. Sheet metal experience is required. This position reports to the VP of Engineering. This is a company that is growing and in need of talent that are adaptable and able to assist in many area. Job Duties: Essential DutiesDesigns and engineers products, in a team effort with suppliers, manufacturing, quality, service, marketing and finance to meet or exceed customer expectations for features, performance, quality, reliability and cost. 30%Leads failure analysis efforts to identify root cause, establishes contingency plans to support short-term production, quality and customer requirements and works with other functional groups to define, develop and implement corrective action in a timely manner. 20%Creates electronic CAD models, layouts, assemblies and drawings as required. 20%Prepares and processes engineering change documentation. 10%Manages engineering projects that either create new, improve or modify a product to meet a specific customer or business need. Develops schedules, cost estimates and provides regular project updates to management. 5%Proactively identifies opportunities for product, process and operational improvements within the Engineering Group. 5%Works closely with Manufacturing during pre-production builds to minimize cost, improve DFM and improve total product quality. 5%Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. 5% Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesStrong product development experience, including design, prototype, test, product launch and support.Strong understanding and experience in product life cycle management utilizing an automated change management system.Strong working knowledge of manufacturing and assembly processes (i.e. sheet metal, injection molding, blow molding, stamping, forming, welding, etc.).In-depth knowledge of mechanism design, life testing and production support, including assembly fixturing and gauging.Ability to work within detailed procedures but able to make decisions based on organizational policy and/or precedent.Skilled at following daily set priorities; however expected to evaluate and respond to new situations requiring immediate attention.Knowledge of inspection equipment and processes including, surface plates, height stands, optical comparators, CMM, etc.Experience working with Quality and Materials functions to improve supplier part quality and process capability.Understanding of regulatory agency requirements, including AGA, UL, ETL, CSA, etc.Working knowledge of MS Office software. Job Requirements: Education and ExperienceBS Engineering or related scientific degree with an emphasis in mechanical engineering or mechanical design is preferred; however, associate degreed candidates will be considered along with applicable work experience10 years minimum experience in designing mechanical assemblies and sub-assemblies with proven ability to take a design from concept through production.5 plus years of product development experience with electro-mechanical productsAbility to create and maintain the complete project Gantts for cross-functional team membersExperience with Phase Gate/Tollgates SystemsExperience with sheet metal, plastics, motors, HVAC, furnaces, condensers, heaters10 or more years' experience with CAD, preferably SolidWorksDesign and process PFMEA developmentCombustion development, preferred Job Responsibilities: Essential ResponsibilitiesFulfills the financial control and risk management responsibilities inherent in the position.Behaves in accordance with the company code of ethics policy at all times.
