Job Description:

Optical Manufacturing Engineer TeraDiode is a Massachusetts based high-growth startup and a world leader in developing high-power, high-brightness diode laser systems. Our kW-class direct diode laser technology is a disruptive force in the materials processing industry, which is currently dominated by fiber lasers and carbon dioxide lasers. Our patented wavelength beam combining technology was developed by our co-founders from MIT Lincoln Laboratory and is designed for defense, industrial, and commercial materials processing applications. Duties and ResponsibilitiesApply experience with opto-mechanical laser assembly and laser alignment to assemble, test, and contribute to the manufacture of direct diode laser systemsReview customer specifications, drawings and other supporting documents.Investigate and initiate corrective action to manufacturing problems arising in the manufacture of one or more of the following: optical components, parts and materials, assembly of optical, mechanical, electrical, electronic or electromechanical units, assemblies, subsystems and systems or manufacturing problems associated with the inspection and/or testing of organization produced products.Review, evaluate, propose and make drawing changes on production released material and coordinates these changes with manufacturing and support groupsAct as technical liaison between production planning and engineering personnel.Use tools, such as power meters and spectrum analyzersApply experience with manufacturing processes including Six Sigma, lean manufacturing, and statistical process control (SPC) Preferred QualificationsBS, MS or PhD in Engineering, Physics or Optics5-10 years industrial experience in optics and manufacturingTwo to three years of assembly, test, industrial experience with optical test equipment in addition to experience in two or more of the following areas is required: fiber lasers, solid-state lasers, semiconductor lasers, laser-based optical subsystems, laser stabilization, high-power lasers, and optical engineering. Optical assembly and laser manufacturing experience is required.Thorough knowledge of optical and electrical test equipment such as power meters, spectrum analyzers, zygo interferometers, CCD/CMOS cameras, and photodiodesRequires knowledge of Six Sigma, SPC and/or ISO process controlsExperience with data acquisition software (LabVIEW), data analysis software (MATLAB, IGOR Pro, Excel) is desirableOptical design software experience desired (Zemax)High tech experience within a fast-paced, start up environmentSuccessful track record accomplishing desired resultsEffective, hard worker with a team player "can-do" approach
