Job Description:

The Contract Network Engineer provides high-level network engineering and technical support for LAN, WAN, and RF infrastructure. Designs, configures, troubleshoots, and maintains company network equipment across multiple brands. Ensures that industry best practices are applied with regard to the use of technology, procedures, and methodology. **Local candidates preferred** Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Achieves assigned goals and objectives.Designs, implements, and operates secure and manageable switched and routed networks. This includes all private, public, and business-partner network infrastructure and monitoring of same. Implements according to schedule in a timely fashion, and operates/monitors systems and processes on a daily basis. This is accomplished according to industry-standard best practices.Responds to and provides 2nd and 3rd level support for trouble tickets/issues from users and/or monitoring systems. Responds in a timely fashion, retaining ownership of issues until resolved.Performs routine analysis of and reporting on system performance, and recommends improvements to manager as appropriate.Documents and updates all network infrastructure and supported business processes.Ensures that all network, equipment configurations and supporting applications are backed up and tested on a regular basis.Ensures that appropriate security considerations and industry-standard best practices are applied to all aspects of the network environment.Ensures that all assigned activities are conducted in accordance with all applicable Company policies and procedures. Minimum Qualifications Experience:Experience in large-enterprise, multi-vendor environments.Experience with designing, implementing, and operating secure and manageable switched and routed networks is required.Experience with enterprise switching technologies, including link negotiation, VLANs, trunking, inter-VLAN routing, port aggregation, and fault isolation is required.Experience with enterprise routing technologies, including static and dynamic routing, routing protocols (OSPF and/or BGP required), and fault isolation is required.Experience with VPN technology, including remote user access, branch office connectivity, monitoring, and fault isolation is required.Experience with packet capture hardware/software (Ethereal, Sniffer) to support fault isolation is required.Experience with wireless technologies is required, including 802.11b/g, WAP configuration, 802.1x, site surveys, monitoring, and fault isolation preferred (ReefEdge product suite and Cisco WAP experience a plus)Experience with security services, including Check Point FW-1 NG, Cisco Pix, RADIUS authentication (Microsoft IAS a plus), and IDS/IPS is a plus.Experience with QOS is preferred, including traffic shaping, COS, and DiffServExperience with VoIP and video conferencing is preferred, including station and trunk classification and prioritization.Experience with network management systems is required (Cisco Works, HP Open View, WhatsUp Gold, Solar Winds is preferred).Experience with structured cabling is required (both fiber and copper).Non-biased view of technologies, but specific experience with Cisco, Nortel, Adtran, and/or Intel products preferred.Experience developing clear, meaningful network documentation, and using diagrams during fault isolation (Visio experience a plus).Experience using Windows required (Linux and/or AIX experience a plus) Education:B.S. Degree Computer Science or equivalent experience Preferred Qualifications:Network certifications very helpful (CCNA, CCNP, CCIE, MCSE, CCSA, NETWORK+, other)
