Job Description:

The Network Monitoring and Performance Engineer is a Senior IT professional delivering technical expertise to design, support and operate monitoring and troubleshooting tools and processes to boost the performance of the network and the applications running on it Major Accountabilities . Provides subject matter expertise for change management, lifecycle planning activities and major incidents resolution in the area of his expertise . Designs, plans, operates, troubleshoots and improves Network Node and Performance Monitoring solutions . Writes documentation specific to the allocated/defined application, system or technology environment (e.g. requirements / functional specifications, designs, build documentation) . Profiles and troubleshoots applications . Ensures the successful end-to-end operation of the corporate network infrastructure and the desired performance of applications using said infrastructure. . Supports the optimal planning and execution of all activities associated with network as well as application performance monitoring. . Provides analytical support for incident and problem resolution ACCOUNTABILITIES . Provides end-to-end analytical support to ensure the delivery of Service related requests. . Provides initial triage of service requests to determine which IT resources should be engaged to fulfill them. . Communicates service requests to other IT resources that will be involved in fulfilling them. . Responsible for defining, analyzing, planning, measuring and improving all aspects of the availability of IT services within the Connectivity domain . Proactively improves service availability wherever possible and optimizes the availability of the IT infrastructure to deliver cost-effective improvements that deliver tangible benefits to the business. . Creates, maintains and regularly reviews an availability management system and a forward-looking availability plan, aimed at improving the overall availability of IT services and infrastructure components; so ensures that existing and future availability requirements can be met. . Responsible for designing infrastructure components and systems required to provide a service. . May manage staff in a matrix organization often including external suppliers. . Capable of providing authoritative technical and professional guidance to external and/or internal stakeholders. . Collaborates closely with Connectivity service lines and architecture to deliver PoC, pilots and successful implementation of new IT solutions for performance improvement. . Creates and maintains comprehensive documentation as it relates to server and network topology, equipment, and configuration(s). . Ensures that the infrastructure is configured to be effectively managed given the organization's technology architecture, available skills and tools. . Ensures the consistent and reliable performance of the infrastructure to deliver the required level of service to the business. . Defines all tasks required to manage the infrastructure and ensuring that these tasks are performed appropriately. . Delivers technical expertise in support of Connectivity systems, corporate applications and associated technology environment. . Provides incident and problem analytical support in support of resolution, follow up and prevention thereof. . Acts as Level 3 and Level 4 Support for problems identified with systems and network. Will act as an escalation for Level 2 and Level 3 Managed Services support technicians. . Proactively initiates troubleshooting and profiling activities to ensure application operational stability with specific focus on network performance. . Creates, requests, and presents technical specifications and requirements for purchasing of network and application performance monitoring equipment via quote procedure. . Participates in after-hours upgrades, troubleshooting, and/or on-call availability as needed. . Operates the systems within his domain to keep them up to date in code, hardware and patches where applicable. . Assists with monthly reports, and recommendations for Managed Services Clients. . Interfaces with third party vendors as liaison between client and vendors . Possesses superior customer service skills. . Stays current with system information, changes, and updates. . Provides Infrastructure services in all areas needed: network security, network engineering, network monitoring, network performance monitoring. . Hands-on technical role, requiring the ability to multitask, prioritize, and accomplish multiple concurrent projects as well as interface with other departments and management. . Interacts with a typically diverse internal and external audience and is required to interpret and communicate complex information . Works independently, prioritizes existing projects, and proactively determines areas requiring additional attention, monitoring, or maintenance. KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS / MEASURES OF SUCCESS . Stable network and application performance monitoring operations for internally managed services . Consistent support and contribution to global IT design and engineering efforts . Delivery of network and application performance solutions to committed dates and timelines . Contribution to assigned projects . Minimum Requirements University degree level education or comparable education in Computer Science or Engineering Science (technical background) Desirable: . Riverbed SteelCentral or Netscout certification . Cisco CCNP certification or comparable from other vendors (i.e. Juniper) . ITIL v3 certification ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE: . 5+ years related experience in designing, planning, documenting, implementing and troubleshooting network and application performance monitoring using latest technology. . 3+ years solid experience with any of these tools (Wireshark, HTTPWatch, PingPlotter, SteelCentral Transaction Analyzer, ARX, AppResponse, Netscout nGenius, Dynatrace). . 3+ years solid experience in network engineering, mainly LAN and WAN. . 3+ years solid experience in troubleshooting network and application performance in complex corporate environments. . 3+ years solid experience in Node Monitoring tools as HP NNMi, Solarwinds Orion, Nagios . Previous experience with Netflow based NPM tools such as Nagios, PRTG, NetProfiler PRODUCT/MARKET/CUSTOMER KNOWLEDGE . No Requirements SKILLS/JOB RELATED KNOWLEDGE . Monitoring and troubleshooting experience is a must. . Effectively utilizes tools to resolve issues and escalates appropriately. . Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate by phone or in person. . Demonstrated ability to achieve successful outcomes in handling difficult situations and work with various customers and management levels. . Demonstrated analytical and troubleshooting skills. . Shows initiative and acts independently to resolve problems. . Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and follow through on projects to completion. . Works effectively both as a team member and independently. OTHER . Good written, presentation and verbal communication skills . Fluency (oral and written) in English, any additional language is a plus
