Job Title: Engineer
Department: Operations
Reports To: Chief Engineer
Position Status: Full-time, Salaried (Non-exempt)
Closing Date: When Filled

The Engineer will be responsible for assisting in the development of new (NPD) projects for both new and existing products, while working with a cross-functional team. This position will enhance the engineering efforts on NPD projects from conception through production launch while following QAD's Product Development Process.

Inter-relationships: Chief Engineer, Business owners, executives, vendors, contractors, and a farm manager.

Business Acumen

  • Assists with key drivers to ensure projects meet established objectives (e.g., margins, costs, revenue, etc.).
  • Enhances program success requirements and drives the path forward to achieve success in the most timely and cost effective manner.

Technical Leadership

  • Works with lead engineer on a project team to deliver innovative, best-in-class products.
  • Follows action plans for projects of large scope to deliver engineering projects on time, below cost, and with high quality.
  • Assists with technical design reviews to ensure engineering tasks are complete, on time, and at or below projected costs.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the manufacturing processes and technologies to produce a product and influence technology choices.
  • Assist with the research and development of new products and procedures.

Problem Solving

  • Identifies problems and conducts root-cause analysis to produce solutions using a systematic approach.
  • May recommend and prepare new inventions and assists in working with Intellectual Property (IP) council.


  • Assist in developing technical update reports to communicate product status to management.
  • Reports status of projects regularly to the Chief Engineer
  • Investigates popular points of view to provide alternative recommendations.

Organizational Agility

  • This position will require the ability to work effectively with other disciplines including Marketing, Manufacturing, Quality, and Supply Chain.

Technical Mastery

  • Has an understanding of product specifications, material selection, manufacturing processes, cost constraints, and regulatory and legal landscape IP to drive high quality, sustainable, and efficient new product development.
  • Assists in the recommendation of the architecture and product design approach for an entire product to meet program objectives.
  • Generates Computer Aided Design (CAD) models and uses other technical tools as needed to execute projects and initiatives.
  • Demonstrates understanding of core discipline and general knowledge of other disciplines to provide robust engineering solutions.
  • Create parts, assemblies, and drawings for custom machine tools, collets and multi station fixtures for CNC horizontal and vertical milling, as well as Swiss and twin turret lathes
  • Design fixtures and custom tooling for product assemblies
  • Design plastic and rubber injection mold tooling

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering required. Graduate degree preferred
  • 2-4 years of product design and development required
  • Has Demonstrated strong problem solving skills
  • Has experience with intellectual property
  • Has Demonstrated ability to organize and be proactive
  • Has Demonstrated a commitment to managing & meeting deadlines
  • Has Demonstrated effective planning/organizational skills with an ability to multi-task, set priorities, and attain goals
  • Has Demonstrated prototyping/design validation model building skills
  • Has Demonstrated experience with 3D CAD modeling (Solid Works preferred), part and assembly models
  • Has Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of relevant manufacturing processes
  • Has Demonstrated superior communication skills-verbal and written
  • Has Demonstrated history of working as a member of a team
