Job Description:

Concept, design, detail, create BOM's and release to the shop, reliable, cost effective automation and test solutions that meet the as sold metrics for cycle rate, uptime, and quality while meeting the budgeted design hours. Prepare detailed designs of unusual, complex, original designs, for the assembly and test of customer components. Designs may be prepared from verbal or written instructions. Performs unusually difficult assignments requiring considerable initiative, resourcefulness, and design expertise. Ensures that anticipated problems in manufacture, assembly, installation, and operation are resolved by the design/drawings produced. Exercises independent judgment in selecting and interpreting data based on knowledge of the design intent. % Time Spent Total = 100% PART B: Specific Duties In order of priority, list the essential duties and responsibilities of this position, the percentage of time spent on each, and key performance measures. 50% Develop detailed designs and specifications for mechanical assembly and test equipment, dies/tools, and controls, using SolidWorks 5% Coordinate with and consult other workers to design, lay out, or detail components and systems and to resolve design or other problems 5% Review and analyze specifications, sketches, drawings, ideas, and related data to assess factors affecting component designs and the procedures and instructions to be followed 5% Modify and revise designs to correct operating deficiencies or to reduce production problems 5% Compute mathematical formulas to develop and design detailed specifications for components or machinery using computer-assisted equipment 5% Lay out, draw, and reproduce illustrations for reference manuals and technical publications to describe operation and maintenance of mechanical systems 5% Present proposed design at the internal and customer design reviews 5% Create a Bill of Materials for the design 5% Print and release drawings and BOM to shop for build 5% Assist in the assembly and debug of the design as needed 5% Update drawings from shop PART C: Management Ability/ Skills Describe the overall management skills necessary to be successful Manage your time and tasks to meet the overall requirements of the project. Manage other designers to meet the overall requirements of the project. Ability to Work closely with other Mechanical Engineers, Project Managers, Controls Engineers, Electrical and Mechanical Build Technicians during different project phases. PART C- I: Qualifications Education /License/ Certification required for this position Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Mechanical / Electro Engineering or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent work experience PART C - II: Qualifications Experience required for this position 5 years experience utilizing Solid Works and/or AutoCAD Designing various custom Automated Test and Assembly Machines in the Automotive, Consumer Product and Medical Device Industries using a wide variety of Automation Platforms (Synchronous chassis's, Indexers, Robotics, Conveyor Systems), Component Presentation/Feed Systems and Automation Technologies including: Welding (resistance/ Laser/Ultra-Sonic) Riveting, Screw Driving, Heat Staking & Soldering, Dispensing, Piercing, Forming, Swaging, Pressing, Marking (Label Printing & Application, Heat Stamping, Thermal Transfer, Ink Jet Printing and C02/Yag Laser Marking) Testing: (Flow, Pressure Decay Leak, Helium Mass Spectrometry, Vision Inspection, Torque , Force vs. Displacement, & Hi-Pot & Resistance), & Vision (Component/Optical Character Recognition, Component Orientation/Tracking, Defect Detection and Dimensional Verification). PART C - III: Qualifications Skills & Knowledge required for this position: Knowledge of sound mechanical design principals, shop practices, and automation and test components. Skills include a intimate knowledge of SolidWorks or equivalent solid modeling software, knowledge of design techniques, automation techniques and principals involved in creation of automation and test stations and machines. A Basic knowledge of how the machine will be controlled. Additional Skills a plus: tool-making, electrical, automotive exc. Must be fluent in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English Computer / Technical Skills: Proficient with SolidWorks or equivalent solid modeling software. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
