Job Description

The Manufacturing Engineer is directly responsible for the planning, formulation, design coordination, and application of engineering programs, ideas and concepts designed to establish, maintain and improve plant operating and manufacturing procedures and methods. The Manufacturing Engineer works to plan, develop, evaluate and implement methods, tooling, layouts and procedures that achieve better quality and lower costs through elimination of waste and delays in manufacturing. The Manufacturing Engineer is liaison between manufacturing and engineering services in the introduction of new product to be manufactured; on required changes in existing product manufacturing; and in the resolution of problems affecting either or both engineering and manufacturing areas. The Manufacturing Engineer also assists maintenance and facility service areas as needed or assigned in appropriate projects. Design and detail manufacturing equipment as required involving mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical controls, and PLC programming under the direct supervision of the Manager, Manufacturing Engineering.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Recommendation, design, and development of required manufacturing tooling, procedures, material specifications, tolerances, etc. in support of production and continuous improvement

  • Investigation and analysis of new equipment and/or new procedural techniques with appropriate cost estimates; preparation of related work instructions; direct supervision and implementation on the design,

  • Procurement, assembly, installation and qualification of new or improved production equipment

  • Emergency manufacturing equipment repairs; expediting required material, tooling, equipment and sub-contracted services

  • Improve manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning work flow, space requirements, and equipment layout

EHS:

  • Responsible to report safety issues and work related accidents as they arise to the Supervisor.

  • Objectives and measures of the EH&S system are to be understood as follows: prevent pollution, injuries and hazards, to continual improve, and to follow legal requirements.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree required

  • 5-10 years' experience in discrete part assembly manufacturing environment

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering preferred

  • Experience with Lean/Six Sigma principles

  • Ability to safely walk production floor and other manufacturing and lab areas

  • Implementing and working with Continuous Improvement programs

  • PLC/PC programming and/or troubleshooting

  • Experience working with and troubleshooting vision systems

  • Fixture design for manufacturing equipment

  • Manufacturing cell design and layout

  • Solid math and engineering skills

  • Excellent communications skills (verbal and written)

  • Strong analytical skills
