The Manufacturing Engineer interacts closely with Quality and Production to determine opportunities for improvement. The Manufacturing Engineer uses lean principles to lead continuous improvement activities, create a supportive team environment, determine process capacity, inventory levels and assist with facilities planning. The Manufacturing Engineer works to improve process efficiency, cost, quality, inventory management, material flow and manages associated project timelines. Duties also include supporting other engineering projects as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Leads and supports continuous improvement projects as assigned. Proactively identify areas within the facility to improve cost, quality, inventory management, process and material flow. Presents opportunities to the management team for evaluation / business case justification and then leads/manages the project through completion with the help of subject matter experts.
Evaluates manufacturing processes by designing and conducting research programs; applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials; conferring with equipment vendors; soliciting observations from operators.
Support manufacturing by updating facility layout drawing as detailed by production management. Improves manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning work flow, space requirements, and equipment layout.
Assists with tooling design, development, build and validation.
Develops manufacturing processes by studying product requirements; researching, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment; conferring with equipment vendors.
Provides manufacturing decision-making information by calculating production, labor, and material costs; reviewing production schedules; estimating future requirements.
Prepares product and process reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
Contributes to plant wide safety at all times, working within and holding others to the safety standards set forth by SoundTech and MIOSHA.
Develops manufactured stock levels and updates for current business at least once a year. For new projects develops batch sizes, supports calculation of internal lead times and job dates.
Completes design and development projects by training and guiding technicians.
Develop CAD files and drawings.
Manages waterjet CNC files.
Manages nesting software.
Coordinates activity related to prototype and sample product builds as required.
Contributes to one team effort and environment by accomplishing related results as needed. Assists and supports all team members as necessary.
Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. Ability to apply principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.
Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
Understanding and knowledge of the Lean principles, 8 wastes, and value stream mapping.
Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications. Ability to apply and use mathematical principals to solve problems.
Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
Knowledge of computer hardware and software. Ability to use Windows based office systems with proficient use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Project, Syteline, Outlook, SigmaNest, Shop Data and AutoCad.
Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of, blueprints, drawings, and models.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree (B.S.), preferably in Engineering, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
