The Manufacturing Engineer plans, leads and coordinates improvement to manufacturing processes using lean methodology. He/she reports to the Lean Transformation Black Belt working to provide end to end support, mentoring and leadership in LSI's Lean Transformation to achieve improvements of the value stream in safety, quality, delivery, productivity and cost. Must be able to communicate and work effectively to develop work center ownership using lean methods and techniques in a fast paced manufacturing environment.
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following: Other duties may be assigned.
.Participate as an active member of the operations team to transform manufacturing processes into world class status utilizing LSI's lean methodology.
.Insure that all processes are set up with ergonomic and safe considerations.
.Analyze and plan labor utilization, space requirements, workflow and equipment layout for maximum efficiency (eliminate waste).
.Set production times, staffing requirements and related cost to provide information for management decisions.
.Consult with planning and design engineering concerning product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods.
.Confer with engineering on bill of materials, routers, make to order parts and specials.
.Work with suppliers to determine specifications and justify the purchase of equipment, materials and parts. Evaluates products according to specifications and quality standards.
.Collects data to support problem solving using pareto analysis, 5 Why's, 5S / Standard Work and Kaizen events to determine root cause of issues. Determine temporary containment and counter measures and then validate and standardize to sustain the solution that resolves the root cause.
.Lead and prioritize multiple projects aimed at improving the overall manufacturing processes.
.Develops standard work, key-points sheets and other documents to train production and other personnel as required.
.Support and implement all aspects of the ISO 9001 quality and New Product Development standards.

Education and/or experience:
Bachelor's Degree from a four year college or university in industrial or manufacturing engineering and/or five years lean experience in a manufacturing environment. Demonstrate working knowledge of lean tools and concepts. Six Sigma training and bilingual Spanish would be a plus.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Have the ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Have the ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume and the ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Also have the ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
Have the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have basic computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel, as well as manufacturing operating systems (JD Edwards).
