Software Guidance & Assistance, Inc., (SGA), is seeking a Java Software Engineer for a long term consulting engagement with a financial services firm located in New York, NY.

Responsibilities :
  • Support and maintain components of AD's development infrastructure, comprised of both custom and 3rd Party components supporting application development including Subversion, Maven, Jenkins, Nexus, IQ Server, etc
  • Provide assistance and guidance to development teams on the effective and efficient use of the development infrastructure.
  • Support the rollout of the development infrastructure to the application development community.
  • Write custom code and test in Java. As part of Common Services, the Development Services team (DevOps team) provides central support for all ADF development infrastructure and tools.
  • Development Services (DevOps team) works closely with all members of the other development teams, to ensure that other developers are getting the greatest value out of the tools provided to them.
  • Since the infrastructure and tools support over 200 developers, 1000 builds per day and a million lines of code, automation is important so that teams run their builds themselves with support for only less typical scenarios.
  • We use automation in order to minimize the configuration and setup for other teams.
Required Skills:
  • Object-Oriented Design (OOD) principles, patterns and anti-patterns, and good practices with Java (Java 6 or later)
  • 4+ years Java programming experience
  • Automated testing principles, patterns and anti-patterns, and good practices with JUnit and other frameworks
  • Websphere
  • Understanding on Linux command lines.
  • Messaging experience (JMS /MQ)
  • Experience developing custom plugins to development tools such as Maven, Eclipse and Jenkins.
  • Experience with Unix shell scripting.
  • Automated build and continuous integration principles, patterns and anti-patterns, and good practices with Maven
  • Experience with Eclipse, Jenkins and Subversion
  • Software Configuration Management (SCM) principles, patterns and anti-patterns, and good practices with Subversion (SVN)
  • Unix user commands and basic shell scripting
  • Mentoring, coaching, training other developers
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work on multiple assignments simultaneously.
Preferred Skills:
  • Ability to work as a member of a Scrum team
  • Nexus / IQ Server
  • Experience with Chef or Puppet
