Job Description

Lucigen seeks a detail-oriented and analytical industrial engineer to join its growing team. This position, using techniques such as Lean, 5S, and Six Sigma, will drive improvement in facility and workflow organization, layout, and efficiency to improve quality and reduce costs. This position also:

  • Identifies constraints within operations and develops effective means to address those constraints
  • Measures and establishes labor and process standards and reviews and adjusts these standards to be used in product costing and project estimate planning
  • Measures variances to standards, identifies out-of-control variances, investigates reasons, suggests solutions, implements, and follows up
  • Supports optimization of production and procurement through analysis of attributes such as batch size, setup, and QC costs
  • Conducts cost comparison studies
  • Analyzes work force and equipment utilization, facility layout, and operational data-such as production costs, production routing procedures, and production schedules-to determine efficient utilization of materials, employees, and capital equipment
  • Recommends methods for improving process quality and efficiency and reducing waste by restructuring job duties, reorganizing work flow, relocating work stations and equipment, and purchasing equipment
  • Participates in new product development to assure design for cost-effective manufacturing
  • Develops and maintains product-costing (COGS) planning and cost analysis systems and data

This position requires a Bachelor's degree in industrial engineering or industrial engineering technology and a minimum of 2 years' experience in a manufacturing operation; strong preference for experience in a batch-/process-/flow-oriented industry, such as life sciences, food, cosmetic, or chemical products. Additional requirements include:

  • Demonstrated experience with lean manufacturing techniques, such as Kanban, 5S, Kaizen, etc.
  • Demonstrated experience with product costing, including bills, routings, and supporting techniques such as time studies
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products, with strong Microsoft Excel skills; experience with ERP systems preferred
  • Ability to lead through influence and strong change management skills
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
  • Aptitude to work in a complex and rapidly growing company
  • Results-oriented, ensuring targets are met on time and on budget
  • Must demonstrate good professional judgment and reliability
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
