Job Description

Job Summary:

Repairs, reconditions, and services various trucks and Caterpillar machines, systems and components. Troubleshoot and diagnose malfunctions and failures of machine and engines systems, and their components.

This position may require extensive travel.

Reports To:

  • Shop Foreman

Supervises:

  • None

Essential Functions:

  • Must be qualified to work in a safety sensitive position on a construction job site or around heavy equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose equipment malfunctions and failures.
  • Repair, recondition, and maintain equipment and components.
  • Work safely at all times. Adhere to all applicable safety policies.
  • Work overtime as needed.
  • Travel to remote locations as needed.
  • Communicate with proper individuals to clarify instructions or discuss scope or progress of job.
  • Demonstrated technical skill competence.
  • Knowledge and skills to operate and understand diagnostic equipment including computerized instrumentation.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and communicate effectively.
  • Knowledge of CAT machine components and systems.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Must have troubleshooting experience with electrical, air and hydraulic systems.
  • Must have your own hand tools.
  • Valid driver license with acceptable driving record in accordance with CSW policy.
  • Ability to obtain a Department of Transportation Medical Card.
  • MSHA certification preferred.
  • Must be able to communicate (speak, read, comprehend, write) in English.
  • Superior attention to detail and the ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to be creative and negotiate solutions.
  • Outstanding organizational skills.
  • Ability to function in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
  • Ability to work well in teams as well as independently and with minimal supervision.

Education and Experience:

  • 3 to 5 years heavy equipment mechanic experience. CAT engine experience preferred.

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

  • Hearing sufficient for being aware of back-up alarms, hearing equipment, and for normal conversations.
  • Dexterity and agility sufficient for climbing around equipment, repairing equipment and driving vehicles.
  • Mental alertness for learning company policy, repairing equipment, diagnosing equipment failures and writing reports.
  • Must be able to meet all safety requirements for applicable safety policies.
  • Working outdoors in inclement climate.
  • May require extensive travel to job sites.
