Job Description

Customer Hardware Support Engineer - Tier 2

iXsystems, an industry leader in open source storage solutions (FreeNAS, TrueNAS, PC-BSD), is on the lookout for committed, experienced and enthusiastic Customer Hardware Support Engineer to provide advanced support of escalation cases. We are therefore looking for individuals who are highly driven and able to work closely within the Support Team in fielding hardware support cases.

The successful candidate will assist the Production and Support Teams in developing as well as deploying custom server solutions for customers' needs through evaluating customer requirements along with verifying system configurations meet those requirements. Ability to provide technical expertise to the Support Team for issues raised in the field is required, including occasional on-site work to debug complex customer issues. The debugging work will include complex hardware issues and OS interoperability exceptions. Strong customer focus is also a must along with demonstrable troubleshooting and configuration competency in a wide variety of categories, including:

? Strong interpersonal skills along with the ability to track and complete numerous simultaneous tasks

? Experience with BIOS and firmware installation along with advanced troubleshooting

? Experience with interconnection technologies such as PCI Express, Infiniband, and USB

? Experience with storage technologies such as SATA and SAS

? Experience with network technologies including Ethernet and TCP/IP

? Experience managing common datacenter operating systems (UNIX, Linux, Windows Server)

? Experience with FreeBSD, NetBSD, and/or OpenBSD is a plus

? Knowledge of remote management technologies (mainly IPMI -- similar to HP iLO or Dell DRAC)

? Knowledge of Intel/AMD architecture at the CPU and chipset level

? Ability to analyze PCI Express, QPI, SAS, SES

? Familiarity with benchmarking methods and technologies

? Background in Network Engineering a plus

? Experience integrating commercially-available computer components into reliable server systems from Intel, AMD, SuperMicro, and others

? Ability to diagnose the root cause of high level system failures - includes identifying failing components and source(s) of failure

? Full understanding of server system schematics and O/S interoperability (primarily Linux and FreeBSD)
