Job Description/Responsibilities

This position will serve as the Consumers Energy Measurement System and Design department as an engineer/specialist and will be responsible for supporting measurement engineering software application and capital projects. The Engineer/ specialist require the ability to solve complex problems, define complex processes and continually improve processes to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and policies. Process improvements and processes must incorporate business needs and best industry practices. The candidate must be able to effectively communicate technical information.
Tasks:
Primary responsibility of the position is to provide day to day operation support for monitoring measurement field equipment and gas quality using Flow Cal software and reviewing application exception. Provide technical expertise in measurement equipment's (Ultra sonic meters, Coriolis meters, Orifice meters, Gas Chromatograph and fuel meters, H2O, H2S, O2, CO2 and Hydro Carbon Dew point Analyzer) with capital project execution, installation, diagnostic, configuration and troubleshooting. This position engages to provide technical expertise on Gas volume dispute with third party billing volume data and internal LAUF (Lost and unaccounted for) gas data. Selected candidate will act as back up support with measurement SOX compliance, witnessing and compression station fuel reporting. Selected candidate will act as a project engineer for gas measurement capital projects.

Requirements/Qualifications


. Four-year degree in engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Fluid or related field) or the equivalent GAS Measurement Engineering experience.

. The candidate is willing to learn new measurement software applications as technology change. Knowledge of Fluid/GAS AGA volume calculation, GAS characteristic, crystal reporting creation and basic electrical engineering is plus. Experience with strategic planning, project management and budgeting is helpful.
. Frequent travel throughout the company's Gas facility areas (City Gates, Storage and Compression facilities) may be required. The individual will need to be a self-starter and able to handle multiple work assignments.
. Ability to research and determine design parameters for the most advanced technical problems/systems, processes, engineering and design issues.
. Applicant requires creativity and ingenuity in the application of various design formula, gas measurement engineering theories likes, thermodynamics, pressure affect, speed of sound, gas velocity, gas quality impact on volume etc.
. Familiarity with Michigan Gas Safety Code
. Masters or other advanced degree, ideally in a technical or scientific field of study
. Energy industry background that includes natural gas chemical component analysis, metering or similar
. Professional Engineering (PE) license

Essential Functions
Planning, design, construction, and maintenance of Electric and Gas Distribution and Electric Generation systems as well as facilities and ancillary support process for all utility operations. Duties and who this individual reports to will fluctuate between projects, Practice Areas, and offices. Individual possesses the skills lead, problem solve, and work well in a team environment. Individual should exemplify safe work practices and follow the company's compliance standards. Lead and/or assist with engineering projects to include design, plans, inspections, system planning, specifications, reports, maps, environmental impacts, permits, contracts, schedules, estimates, surveying, easements, data collection, construction observation, and field investigation. Provide engineering services with accuracy, integrating all applicable governmental and company laws, standards and procedures on time and under budget. Use computer assisted engineering, design, and drafting software and equipment to prepare engineering and design documents. Understand and follow company established standard procedures for file structure and standard drawing procedures for projects Become familiar with plans and specifications, maps, and related material for each project and be able to utilize the information appropriately. Assists in client contact and communication. Utilize effective oral and written communication skills to provide technical expertise to coworkers, clients, customers, government entities and the public. Public involvement may include producing reports, graphics, presentations, and other visual material as well as occasional speaking or meeting with stakeholders. Attend internal and external meetings. Provide all engineering services in a legal and ethical manner. Resolve all customer complaints in a timely manner. Serve as onsite project representative. Reviews operating and construction sites to monitor progress and other duties per the design documents.
Hours and Travel
This position requires the individual work a minimum of 40 hours per week (45-50 typical) with 60-70% of time spent in the office and 30-40% in specific field locations. Travel is required to job sites and project meetings and could be significant dependent upon location. Individuals need to be willing to work additional hours as necessary to meet deadlines or assist with storm restoration activities. Individual should be willing to participate in the on call rotation in case of potential storms. Individual may have to work outside of assigned headquarters to help with storm restoration which may require overnight stays Individuals must have a valid driver's license.
