Job Description:

SCOPE AND RESPONSIBILITY: The Firmware Engineer-will partner with the Operations Leader, CEO, and all functional leaders to achieve business goals, as well as increase the companies overall value by leading, influencing and guiding the firmware programming development of the engineering team and be responsible primarily for programming and not simply project managing programming done offsite. The listed skills are required, but candidates with broad skill sets and a focus on efficient solutions to technical challenges are preferred.Write, test, debug, integrate, and deploy firmware for Microchip PIC and similar platforms.Maintain, adapt, and modify existing codebase to respond to change requestsDocument and verify code for quality assurance and regulatory complianceProvide input on hardware and software design decisions that interact with the device firmwareWork with existing system for commissioning GSM communications links to deployed devicesAdvise Director of Operations on the appropriate resolution of lead-time, programming, & production manufacturing issues.Maintain open communications with all associates & supervisors to assess the needs of their departments and help the company accomplish its objectives by recommending solutions relative to programming initiatives and goals.Able to be coached and held accountable for the achievement of company goals and objectives.Develop meaningful reporting tools that serve to support & ensure positive performance Be responsible for serving as an escalation point for all programming issues, problems, or concerns if they cannot be handled by primary client internal contact. REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelors degree or commensurate work experience 5-10+ years progressive firmware engineering experience within a manufacturing environment Hands-on Programming experience is absolutely necessary. Proven working experience developing embedded firmware Thorough working knowledge of Microchip PIC 8-bit and 16-bit devices, including from-scratch development of firmware for real-time and low power applications in MPLAB C Working knowledge of digital communications protocols, including SPI, I2C, RS-232, RS-485 Intermediate or better working knowledge of MPLAB Assembler Ability to adapt existing code across platforms and C dialects. Knowledge of the CCS compiler is a strong plus Knowledge of embedded peripherals such as sensors and communications links Knowledge of low-power microcontroller techniques for battery powered devices, including verification and testing Ability to work with a small team on multiple projects in an adaptable, goal-oriented way High level of personal integrity, ethics, initiative, and strong interpersonal skills Capacity to build and maintain constructive and informative working relationships at all levels in the organization with employees, management showing respect for others Displays a "team player" mentality. Attention to detail & thorough in all projects and programming matters. Ability to present ideas in an easy-to-understand and engaging manner to non engineering types Proven ability to challenge and motivate management teams to foster innovation in an atmosphere of mutual respect Highly creative/influencer - works to help business leaders embrace new ways of operating Comfortable using fewer resources in terms of time, materials, money and people to deliver results Excellent interpersonal, influencing and communication skills required Demonstrated track record of successful management abilities Confident and willing to push back on other senior leaders/internal clients/outside vendors, as needed KEY COMPETENCIES FOR SUCCESS: Metric and results oriented with hands-on "get it done" mentality Ability to build trust at all levels of the organization.
