Our Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey based client is seeking an Emissions Certification Engineer:
Responsibilities for this position include:
Develop and maintain a working knowledge of all US regulations, standards and specifications related to fuel economy of light duty vehicles (passenger cars and light duty trucks); develop fuel economy calculation templates for the various types and classes of vehicles based on applicable regulations; compile test information and sales projections, calculate fuel economy label values and gas guzzler taxes for each model, calculate GHG and smog index values, prepare and upload information to EPA database, input fuel economy and other data to PISA/Monroney label system. Compile and distribute reports to various internal customers.
Compile part numbers and flat rate repair times for all emission-relevant components for all light duty vehicle models for each model year, calculate emissions repair costs, determine repairs over CARB threshold, prepare high cost warranty repair lists for inclusion in Service and Warranty books; prepare emission-relevant component list for inclusion in applications for certification, compile part numbers for all emission-relevant components for all motorcycle models for each model year, mark emissions indicator on warranty parts system for each emissions-relevant component.
Develop and maintain a working knowledge of all regulations, standards and specifications related to emissions certification of light duty vehicles and motorcycles; support BMW AG with all certification activities; prepare fleet average emission annual reports as required by federal and California regulation; develop and improve templates used for annual reporting; prepare and submit certification documents to various state agencies; prepare all documentation and coordinate payment of certification fees. Develop and maintain a working knowledge of all regulations, standards and specifications related to surveillance testing of light duty vehicles and motorcycles; support BMW AG with all activities; develop and improve templates; prepare and submit certification documents to; prepare all documentation and coordinate vehicle importation / transportation and the related costs. Develop and maintain a working knowledge of all federal and California emissions warranty regulations for light duty vehicles and motorcycles; create, review and approve emissions warranty statements; compile, edit and review quarterly emissions warranty information reports; investigate newly listed parts; prepare trend spreadsheet to support AG's analysis; support Warranty Department requests for interpretation of emissions warranty regulations.
Respond to internal and external inquiries related to emissions certification data, status and deadlines, fuel economy label, interpretation of emissions and fuel economy regulations and standards, ZEV, CAF, GHG reporting.
Able to travel, drive a car, read, write and participate in in-person meetings, telephone and video conferences
Bachelors Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Automotive, Mechanical)
Masters Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Automotive, Electrical) Preferred
3-5 years work in vehicle development or project management within the Automobile Industry or
3-5 years recent experience in Emissions and Fuel Economy Certification and Compliance in the Automobile Industry
1-3 years experience in direct interaction with government agencies (EPA, CARB, NHTSA)
Must be very proficient with Excel, proficient with Word and PowerPoint; must be familiar with EPAs CDX/Verify database and CARBs E-Cert system; analysis skills, planning skills
Some Overnight Travel required, must be licensed to operate automobiles and light trucks
