Job Description:

This is a professional, exempt, Information Technology position responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance and support of data driven software application systems. This position will focus on developing software solutions in support of campus research and innovation related activities. This position will utilize the facilities of database management systems, software engineering and application development to develop applications ranging in scope from supporting an individual research project to innovative IT delivered services. This position reports to the Director of Research Support Services. Essential Functions (top five critical functions):Independently performs programming and analysis work to develop applications in support of research and innovation related projects.Consult with and advise other Programmers, Programmer Analysts and users regarding system problems/failures and programming errors; recommend solutions or adjustments. Consult with staff, faculty and users on technical problems of varying complexity.Installs, designs, maintains, and enhances the University's code repositories, operating environment, and coding standards.Maintains appropriate documentation on developed programs/reports.Train staff, faculty, and users on software/systems developed and provide technical support. Provide redundancy in support of software/systems used and produced by staff, faculty, and users. Non-Technical ResponsibilitiesWork smoothly in tightly integrated team environmentProvide excellent customer serviceCommunicate effectively through verbal and written mediumsDevelop and present ideas, solutions, and various reports, both formally and informallyMentor fellow team members. Minimum Qualifications: In appraising the relative qualifications of candidates for all levels, consideration will be given to the extent and type of experience with various information technology functions and to the extent and type of pertinent education and formal training. At the time a job opening is posted the hiring department will specify required knowledge and skills pertaining to specific technologies/ software /equipment.Working knowledge of or proven capability to quickly learn programming languages, operating systems, database management systems.Practical experience in developing web based applications using current design tools and languages.Knowledge and application of software engineering principles when developing applications.Knowledge of data modeling concepts and design techniques, database definitions, testing and debugging, and applying security concepts while designing and maintaining applications and database structure data integrity. Preferred QualificationsPractical experience writing in one or more programming languages including JavaScript, PHP, C/C++, Bash, Python for web environments.Practical experience writing in one or more programming languages including Fortran, R, c, c++, open mpi for HPC environments.Practical experience in writing and maintaining scientific applications including parallel algorithms and applications.Effective communication and interpersonal skills - sufficient to effectively elicit IT information from users, train users in technical procedures / design, and document IT related procedures.Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of a work assignment and to participate as a member of a cross departmental project team.Bachelor's degree in computer, electrical, or electronic engineering, or equivalent combination of education and experience.Time management skills and organizational ability for project management.Ability to work under pressure; meet inflexible deadlines; deal with difficult individuals while maintaining composure.Evening, weekend and call-in work may be required to meet deadlines and correct system failures To Apply Click on the Apply Now button above, then click on Prospective Employees & look for Job ID: 19507 - Database Programmer Analyst.
