Gladstone has consistently ranked as one of the top places to work in academia in the United States.The Chief Building Engineer will perform management and daily administration of the engineering team to protect and improve the value of building system assets and maintain regulatory compliance. H/She will maintain a thorough knowledge of all building systems and how they integrate, ensuring that building engineering systems, staff and vendor support maintain compliance and perform the intended function. Essential FunctionsSupervises the work of staff, including: planning, assigning and scheduling work; reviewing work and ensuring quality standards; training staff and overseeing productivity. Oversees the work of vendors engaged in preventative maintenance and/or other related activities, including repair and testing for all building systems, simple systems orientation, hands on training for individual components, and documentation and training materials.Maintains, troubleshoots and repairs all central plant and auxiliary equipment.Monitors and controls Building Automation System and associated operating equipment, including all air change rates, humidification and pressure control for vivarium, bio safety rooms, radioactive and hazardous hood operations. Performs program and field adjustments to automation programming, variable frequency drives, chiller, boilers, and related equipment. Provides emergency response support to facility and lab operations. Responds to regular and after-hours emergency issues requiring dispatch of vendor support, in house staff or login to building automation or security systems.Manages and participates in building requests for service and communicates progress. Maintains, troubleshoots and repairs central plant and auxiliary equipment and permits and certifications.Performs administrative duties, including project record keeping, security database maintenance and equipment documentation, and other related items.Performs other duties as assigned.Associate's Degree or vocational or technical school degree in Facility Engineering/Building Operations.Ten plus years of journeyman level experience with Central Plant HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical, Building Automation and Emergency Power and Life Safety/Fire suppression systems.Previous experience in a medical or healthcare environment preferred.PI
