Job Description

Job Summary:

Apply principles of chemistry, biology, physics and other mathematics to develop formulas and design chemical manufacturing processes. Develops and maintains a liaison with formulating chemists and managers, as well as bulk manufacturing in regards to implementation of process improvements, results of first production batches, root cause analysis and any other processing related topics

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Conduct research to develop new and improved manufacturing processes

Design, lead and analyze consumer research to actively translate consumer insights into innovative approaches from a formulation and/or communication standpoint

Apply technical competence and knowledge base gained from past experiences to generate new ideas that lead to innovative and proprietary products

Evaluate and/or develop new materials and technologies which result in the creation of a high-quality stream of formula prototypes for consumer / technical testing

Represent product(s) at cross-functional team meetings, providing updates on R & D progress and insights and be involved in project team decisions

Ability to plan, coordinate and lead programs for research, product development and improvement of formulations and associated manufacturing processes

Leads programs for the analysis and testing of substances, including raw materials to verify and/r improve the composition and quality of manufactured products as directed

Reviews research, testing, quality control and other operational reports to ensure that quality standards, efficiency and schedules are met

Generates reports and technical papers as required

Create and maintain all the necessary documentation to develop and commercialize the products (i.e. lab notebooks, specifications, technical test methods/data.etc0

Partner in the creation of strong substantiated claims and other consumer and customer communication with the marketing department

Support current brand business, including maintaining current products in market Partnering with Quality in identifying solutions for manufactuiring issues, qualifying alternate source raw materials for ways to reduce product costs

Develop safety procedures for those working with dangerous chemicals

Conduct tests and monitor the performance of processes throughout production

Troubleshoot problems with manufacturing processes

Optimize existing bulk manufacturing and filling processes, as required, to maintain maximum process efficiency at the manufacturing facilities and third party manufacturers

Evaluate equipment and processes to ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations

Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures

Essential Skills Required:

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers

Requires a comprehensive knowledge of cosmetic process development methods and techniques, product formulations, manufacturing and filling processes

Excellent creative and innovative skills

Strong oral and written communication skills

Highly collaborative, driven and self-motivated with a positive attitude

Problem solver with the ability to handle multiple and changing priorities in a fast paced, dynamic organization

Downstream formulation experience in consumer goods, preferably with personal care or household products

Ability to develop products from inception to market realization, not just modifications to an existing formula. Must can create a recipe

Must be detailed oriented and well organized

Strong delegation capabilities

Ability to use strong analytical and artistic approach to solve complex issues

Excellent computer proficiency (MS Office - Word, Excel and Outlook)
