Autonomous Vehicles will play a major role in many of these upcoming mobility solutions. In fact, Autonomous Vehicles will play a key role in the future of Ford, in the future of transportation, and in the future of how people interact with their world.This future is being created today by Ford's Research and Advanced Engineering team. This fun, fast-moving, innovative team is looking for candidates to support research and developmental efforts in producing fully-autonomous vehicles (SAE Level 4).This position entails developing, implementing, and testing real-time object detection and tracking algorithms for use in fully-autonomous vehicles in real-world scenarios. Using sensors such as lidar, radar, and cameras, these perception algorithms allow the autonomous vehicle to understand the nearby environment, allowing safe operation in simple-to-complex situations. Ideal candidates will have strong grasp of computer science fundamentals, solid background in aforementioned sensors, a history of implementing detection/tracking algorithms, and experience with deploying perception solutions in automotive or military settings.Responsibilities may include:Design, implement and test algorithms for environmental/situational awareness, including multi-sensor fusion, object detection, object classification, and simultaneous tracking of multiple objects through complex scenesCalibrate, test, interface, and integrate with a variety of sensors, including cameras, lidar, radar, ultrasonics, gps, imus, etc., in prototype-to-production scenariosDesign and execute experiments including data collection, data analysis, and performance evaluation from both simulation and with real vehicle dataDevelop, implement and utilize specific metrics to quantify the performance of detection, classification, and tracking algorithmsSupport, and work within, cross-functional teams for the research and development of next generation automated driving systemsPresent designs, challenges, implementation details, and results with excellent written and oral communications skills Support periodic project milestones including in-vehicle testing and demonstrations Basic Qualifications:Master's degree in Robotics, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or related technical field4+ years of experience with probabilistic state estimation and Bayesian inference4+ years of experience developing and implementing algorithms in at least two of the following areas: object detection, clustering/segmentation, object classification, sensor fusion, and/or multiple object tracking1+ years of experience using Linux, or similar operating system Preferred Qualifications:PhD in Robotics, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or related fieldStrong background in Kalman filtering, linear algebra, vector analysis, and non-linear optimization techniquesExperience with various sensor systems, such as lidar, radar, cameras, gps, and imuAbility to quickly prototype, evaluate, and optimize software solutionsExperience developing high-quality C/C++ code, including multi-threading, data visualization, and quantitative performance evaluationExperience developing custom software within a large codebase, including proficiency with software version control systems (e.g., git or svn), code reviews, and style guidelinesExperience with Linux development operations using tools such as: gcc, ld, ar, make, bash, gdb, and valgrindExperience with inter-process communications (e.g., LCM or sockets)Experience with CAN, UDP, TCP, and network routing systemsExperience working in a team-based project from inception to finish across multiple disciplines, e.g., hardware design and implementation, data acquisition and analysis, mathematical modeling, algorithm development, application implementation, etc.Possess strong oral and written language skillsThe distance between imagination and . creation.
