Job Description:

We're looking for a full-stack developer who does great work. If you embrace technology agnosticism, are passionate about releasing excellent code to customers, love working in an Agile environment, and always know the right tool-PHP, Python, Java SQL, or Java NoSQL-to get the job done, we want to hear from you. As WebPT's newest associate software engineer, you'll help us move the implementation of our SaaS products over to PaaS and LaaS on AWS and iterate our PHP codebase to a RESTful microservice architecture-all while researching and evaluating cutting-edge technologies and platforms. We're essentially rebuilding our plane while it's in the air. (Look, Mom, no parachute!) At WebPT, we hire the most talented people for our teams, and then give them the freedom to do their jobs. Here, we work hard-but we have lots of fun doing it. So, if you like a cool, collaborative, challenging, Agile-did we already mention Agile?-work environment, you'll fit right in. Responsibilities ? Maintain and debug existing PHP application code. ? Assist with the design and deployment of new features. ? Assess, experiment with, and recommend microservice architecture and implementation technologies. ? Research and understand problems from our users' perspectives and perform application support duties as necessary. ? Be a consummate professional-as a software engineer, that means you exhibit excellent design, implementation, and testing discipline. ? Study like an A-plus student. You'll need to quickly learn and monitor operating system, application, and database performance-and then report your findings to others. ? Channel your inner Sherlock Holmes. We're looking for a detective who's adept at identifying bottlenecks and making informed recommendations to keep us ahead of our growth curve. ? Collaborate with your team to assess, experiment, spike, and recommend appropriate technologies as we move to a RESTful microservice architecture. We're moving fast, and no one has all the answers. That's why teamwork will be critical for determining the path forward. ? Be flexible. This role is ever-evolving-just like WebPT-so while you don't need to be Cirque du Soleil nimble, we may occasionally ask you to do a few cartwheels, or at least try some things outside of your wheelhouse. Skills and Qualifications Abilities and Knowledge ? Understand when to pass the ball. We're looking for team players here-preferably ones who are comfortable on an Agile court. ? Be organized, ahead of schedule, communicative, and accountable-in short, own your role entirely, while being open to critiques, suggestions, and new ideas. ? Know how to roll up your sleeves. We have a lot of brass tacks here, and we like to get down to 'em. ? Know your stuff-including JavaScript, RESTfulness, the cloud, SQL and NoSQL, and engineering patterns-and be able to talk about it confidently, accurately, and honestly. ? Have an agile mind and a mind for Agile; we want someone who lives and breathes the Agile software development methodology. ? Jibe with our culture. We're talkin' energy, integrity, positivity, a hunger for knowledge, and a passion for sharing it. Bring all that and a bag of chips. Seriously, we love chips. Education and Experience Required: ? Bachelor's degree in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, or a related field ? Experience with full-stack web application development-JavaScript to server to database ? Experience testing frameworks Preferred: ? Experience using JavaScript, CSS, or mobile front-end technologies ? Experience using caching technologies (e.g., Memcached, Redis, Hazelcast), message queues (e.g., ActiveMQ , RabbitMQ, Kafka, SNS), and other development technologies (e.g., Docker, Vagrant, Git). ? Knowledge of AWS ? Experience working with Agile teams Additional Aspects of the job Application Requirements ? N/A Equipment Involved ? N/A Working Conditions WebPT will make reasonable accommodations to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will not be exposed to weather conditions, and the noise level is usually moderate. Physical Requirements WebPT will make reasonable accommodations to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
